Toast and Timelines
The first post has arrived!
Started the day with this amazing read and with pan con tomate which sounds fancy but is simply Spanish for toast with pureed tomato. Eight months ago, it sounded weird to the Indian in me who loves her steaming idlis and gobhi parathas but it turned out to be quite tasty. Now, I'm hooked.
Yesterday, I completed a Fitness Blender Five Day Challenge (link here - not sponsored in any way I just love Kelli and Daniel) which was pretty rigorous. So, I didn't exercise at all today apart from the short walk to the library. It's as important to rest your muscles as it is to work them. Also, I like being lazy from time to time.
The Book
Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind hasn't been touted by the political and business celebs alike for no reason. From Bill Gates to Obama, everyone who is anyone has recommended this read. Sixty pages into it, I believe the book deserves all the praise it has received.
Sometimes, bestsellers have left me disappointed, like White Teeth by Zadie Smith. I know... I know she is awesome but that book was just-so-boring. However, evolution, history, and politics are my current favorite genre. I'm finally taking a break from classics after having re-read Shakesperean tragedies like Romeo and Juliet. Also, non-fiction from reputed authors is, usually - and I use the word a bit leniently here, consistently good. I will write more about the book once I have progressed a bit further or once I have completed it.
Finally...
Sometimes, it's okay to be just plain sad.
Being sad is very different from being depressed and while the latter is a serious health hazard which needs professional medical care, the prior is just an ocassional state of mind. Of course, that makes it unwise to use the two terms interchangeably.
Anyway, as I was saying, we all are sad from time to time and it's hard to keep our chins up in a world where people ingest Tide pods in the name of a challenge (read how the Tide Pod challenge went viral). I chose to give up my career in Banking to pursue reading and writing and enthusiastically moved to a country where I am not allowed to work for money. I am almost always happy because I am blessed with a supportive family and wonderfully encouraging friends who find so many ways to make me move my lazy ass and work toward my dreams. Almost always. But it is a scary career trajectory for a thirty-three-year-old. So, when the realization of such insanity dawns on me, I eat chocolate and read Jane Austen.
And that is all we can do. You plow through such moments because there are happier moments too. No one is as happy as in their instagram feed. No one. Life maybe easier for some than for others but it isn't a walk in the park for any one of us. However, if you have reasons to smile, it's okay to have reasons to ocassionally cry too. What say?
Today's question - What would you do if the world ran out of chocolates?
